Is Flybird A Good Company? Diving Deeper Into The Brand

Is Flybird a good company?

Flybird seems to be taking a good chunk from the home fitness market. But they’re hardly the biggest brand out there. So as a potential buyer, how do you know you won’t get ripped off or taken advantage of by an under-the-radar company? I got you covered. This article will explain whether or not Flybird is a good company.

In general, Flybird is an above-average company. The Flybird weight benches are good value for money. But their dumbbells are overpriced and their pull-up bar does not have a lot of positive reviews. Additionally, their customer support generally receives good feedback.

These opinions are based on personal research and experience with using the Flybird adjustable weight bench.

Having been through the buyer phase myself, I want to help you make a more informed decision yourself!

So let’s jump straight in.

Products Made By Flybird

Here are the best Flybird products in each category (bench, dumbbells, and pull-up bars). These are just my personal opinions based on personal testing!

Flybird Is A Small But Reputable Company

Flybird is a relatively small company compared to the home gym giants such as Rogue, Powerblock, Bowflex, REP, etc.

But being a small company doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t be trusted.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Flybird company.

The Flybird company has operated for 7 years.

Flybird is still a newcomer to the home fitness market.

I conducted a USPTO search to find out more about Flybird.

Flybird was incorporated in 2014.

It actually belongs to a parent company called Yongkang Tonghe Trade Co, which was incorporated in 2013.

Therefore the Flybird brand has been operating for 7 years (at the time of writing this article).

Flybird Is made in china and re-branded in USA.

Is Flybird a good brand?

As is evident by the parent company name (Yongkang Tonghe), Flybird is actually a China-based company.

Their head office is in the Zhejiang province in China.

I couldn’t find any reliable information for their manufacturing address, but I’m assuming their factories are also based in the area too.

In support of this, most of their products come with a clear “Made In China” label.

Additionally, many of the Flybird products can also be found on Alibaba (a china-based marketplace).

Finally, their website and instruction manuals are full of amusing grammatical errors.

To me, this is a strong indicator that the products are designed in China (as well as being manufactured there).

They are then flown to and re-branded in the US.

Many fitness products are made in China!

With all this said, it doesn’t mean Flybird is a bad company.

Look:

Many fitness products are made in China these days.

Even big brand names like Bowflex source some of their parts from China.

Generally speaking, China has partnered with a lot of Western brands over the last decade, and their standards of manufacturing have also improved dramatically.

What products do Flybird company sell?

The Flybird FB149 is a good weight bench for beginners and intermediates to do dumbbell training at home. It’s also great with resistance bands and moderately heavy barbells.

Being less than 10 years old, Flybird has a small product portfolio that focuses on affordable mid-range home fitness equipment.

Flybird products include:

  • Foldable weight benches.
  • Selectorized adjustable dumbbells.
  • Doorway pull-up bar.

We know that these products are made in China.

But are they any good?

I’ve heavily researched the Flybird products, and also tested some of them.

In fact, I’m currently using the Flybird FB149 adjustable weight bench.

From my research, I can say that most of the Flybird products are average to good in terms of quality.

But just like many other mid-range brands, there are certain items to be wary of.

Let’s identify these now.

Flybird Company Vs Competitor Products

I’ve compiled Amazon reviews and comments to find out what other customers say about the Flybird products.

I’ve also compared the products in each category (weight benches, dumbbells, and pull-up bars) with Flybird’s closest competitors.

The competitor products I chose are based on similar price points to the Flybird portfolio.

Here’s what customers think about the Flybird portfolio.

1) Flybird weight benches:

RankWeight BenchTotal # Reviews# Reviews >3*# Reviews <3*
1Flybird adjustable weight bench16,85688%4%
2Fitness Reality adjustable weight bench8,56693%3%
3PasYou adjustable weight bench6,18890%4%

In my opinion, Flybird makes some of the best mid-range weight benches.

There are currently three Flybird benches on the market– FB149, FB139, an adjustable bench with a waist pad, and a foldable flat bench.

They can all be found for under $150 (exact price depends on model), and they all have great reviews.

Additionally, their benches are all foldable.

This makes them awesome for beginners to intermediates who train at home with limited space.

Compared to competitor weight benches, the Flybird benches also have a much greater volume of positive reviews.

This suggests that the Flybird weight benches are more popular than their competitors like Fitness Reality and PasYou.

Use a bench with dumbbells to build chest muscle

Top tip: I’ve been using the Flybird FB149 adjustable weight bench (link to check cheapest Amazon price) for over a year now, and I highly recommend it for beginners trying to gain their first 20-lbs of muscle at home. It’s affordable and one of the best-value-for-money benches on the market. The best thing about it is the 700-lb weight capacity, folding capabilities, and flat/incline/decline settings. It’s ideal for people between 5’7″ to 6’0″. If you fall outside of this height range, then the Fitness Reality adjustable weight bench is the next best thing. The footrest isn’t as comfortable as the Flybird, but the seat and backrest are more suitable for very tall and very short people.

2) Flybird adjustable dumbbells:

RankDumbbellTotal # Reviews# Reviews >3*# Reviews <3*
1Bowflex selectech 55213,79895%4%
2Flybird adjustable dumbbells2,54694%4%
3Ativafit adjustable dumbbells 2,22588%7%

The Flybird adjustable dumbbells generally receive very positive reviews.

Although the FLybird reviews are nowhere near as numerous as the Bowflex Selectech dumbbells, it’s still something they can be proud of.

On average, customers seem to love their dumbbells.

In my opinion, the Flybird dumbbells are very “meh”.

By that, I mean they aren’t bad but they aren’t exceptional products either.

My major concerns about the Flybird dumbbells are the limited weights and relatively high prices.

The dumbbells come in two options: 25-lbs and 55-lbs.

The 25-pounders are relatively light and most beginners trying to build muscle will outgrow them in no time.

In comparison, the 55-pounders have a good weight to build decent muscle.

But for a cheaper price, you can buy the Powerblock Elites instead.

Not only is the Powerblock brand extremely reputable, but their 50-lb dumbbells can be upgraded up to 90-lbs.

And this will take 90% of skinny beginners to the advanced stages of training (i.e. big pecs and shredded abs!)

All in all, I think there are much better alternatives on the market and I wouldn’t buy the Flybird dumbbells myself.

Top tip: if you’re interested in adjustable dumbbells, then I would highly recommend the Powerblock Elite series (link to check cheapest price). They’re more expensive than budget competitors, but they also provide superior poundages for long-term progression, are extremely durable, and are comfortable to use. 95% of reviews for these dumbbells are very positive and you also get the famous Powerblock customer support and warranty. If you’re on a tight budget, then the Yes4All spinlock dumbbells (check link for the cheapest Amazon price) are the next best thing.

3) Flybird doorway pull-up bar:

RankPull-Up BarTotal # ReviewsTotal # Reviews >3*# Reviews <3*
1Iron Gym pull-up bar16,83589%7%
2Prosource Fit pull-up bar12,39787%7%
3Flybird pull-up bar30883%13%

The Flybird doorway pull-up bar is relatively new on the market and something I wouldn’t recommend you to buy.

There’s not much to be said about them.

First of all, the bar itself looks quite cheap and poorly designed.

But secondly, the reviews tell all.

The Flybird pull-up bar only has 308 Amazon reviews, compared to the 10,000+ reviews from their competitors like Iron Gym and Prosource.

I would much rather buy a product that’s been vetted by other users.

Check Amazon Price

Top tip: if you want to do pull-ups at home, then power towers are my favorite piece of gear. I use the Sports Royal Power Tower (link for cheapest Amazon price). It’s got a low footprint, is easy to assemble, and accommodates all user heights. The best thing about a power tower is its weight capacity (you can do weighted pull-ups to build a broad back. Also, they won’t damage your property as some doorway pull-up bars can. They are a bit more expensive than pull-up bars though. If you don’t want to spend $150+ on a pull-up station, then I’d recommend the Prosource Fit Doorway Pull-Up Bar instead of the Flybird pull-up bar.

My Experience With The Flybird Company

Having used the Flybird adjustable weight bench for over a year now and after doing many hours of research before purchasing, there are a few insights to share about Flybird as a company.

Here they are.

Flybird is a good company for beginners.

1) Their products are mostly for beginners.

Most of the Flybird products are made for beginners and are overpriced in my opinion.

In fact, the majority of the 5-star reviews seem to come from beginners whilst many of the sub-3-star reviews seem to be from more experienced weight lifters.

But that’s not to say all their products are rubbish.

As explained above, the Flybird FB149 adjustable weight bench (link for my review), in particular, is good value for money and I’d recommend it for beginners to intermediates alike.

But for anyone serious about building more than 10-lbs of muscle or looking to get ripped at home, there are better dumbbells and pull-up bars to choose from.

If you’re interested in one of their weight benches, be sure to check out my other article for a Flybird weight bench comparison!

2) The warranty service is a bit hit and miss.

All Flybird products are covered by a 1-year warranty.

Thankfully, I’ve not had to utilize my warranty.

But I’ve researched other user experiences with the Flybird warranty policy.

44% of users have a positive experience, whilst 56% of users have a negative experience.

Top pick positive comment:

“The bench had an issue and my warranty just expired. They asked for some pictures and went ahead with sending a replacement!”

The Pillow Man, Amazon

Top pick negative comment:

“Product description states the frame is under a 1 year warranty but I’ve not been able to contact seller for replacement”

Erica, Amazon.

3) Customer support is generally great.

They don’t have a telephone number to directly speak to a brand ambassador, but you can find their email address on the Flybird website (service@flybirdfitness.com).

Again, I’ve not had to contact their customer support yet, and I hope I never will have to.

But having looked at the Amazon user comments, most customers have no issue getting their issues resolved.

90% of users have a positive experience, whilst 10% of users have a negative experience.

Top pick positive comment:

“Customer service is first rate. Above & beyond can correct it attitude. Wish all merchants were like this outfit”

Amazon Customer

Top pick negative comment:

“Other products by Flybird that seem better (referring to dumbbells). However, the customer service is spot on!”

Keith Wade Cullen, Amazon.

Flybird Products Recap

Conclusion

From my research and personal experience, I can only conclude that Flybird is an above-average company.

Whilst they make a good-value adjustable bench, their dumbbells and pull-up bars have room for improvement.

In my opinion, there are much better alternatives you can buy!

Additionally, gone are the days where China-based companies are automatically shunned.

Instead, I feel people should evaluate a company based on current customer feedback.

And Flybird seems to generally get positive feedback (except maybe for their warranty service).
